The Medfield Community Association (MCA) has recognized that the "Pedestrian Safety and Traffic Calming" issues have significantly increased due to the proposed development of Skyview (43 townhomes), Redfern (15 townhomes) and the proposed Rotunda Development (302 apartments, 100 condos, 10 townhomes, plus retail). These challenges have been compounded proportionally due to the failing traffic light at 41st and Falls Road at which all traffic will flow and Medfield's cut-thru traffic due the mentioned failing traffic light.

Over the past two years Medfield's pedestrian safety, cut-thru traffic, and traffic calming issues are well documented in community meetings. This issues are also noted in Baltimore City Planning Department Hearings and Baltimore Land Use and Transportation Committee Hearings concerning proposed development.

At the direction of Frank Murphy, Department of Transportation and participation of Belinda Conaway (7th District), The MCA is continuing community discussions to submit a formal request to have speed bumps installed on certain streets in Medfield to deter speeding cut-thru traffic due to the failing traffic light at 41st Street and Falls Road. The streets include but are not limited to: Weldon Avenue, 42nd Street, Buena Vista Avenue, Elsa Terrace and Edgehill Avenue.

The Principal of Medfield Heights Elementary, Mr. Anthony Japzon, would also like to include pedestrian safely and traffic calming devices around Medfield Heights Elementary to include but not limited to Roland Heights Avenue and Buchanan Ave.

Medfield recognizes that speed bumps are somewhat limited due to the truck traffic (Hedwin) and school bus traffic (Medfield Heights Elementary). Medfield also recognizes that a large number of the street/traffic/parking/ pedestrian signs are missing causing immediate pedestrian safety, traffic, and parking issues.

Before the Formal Speed Bump Request (File: G07-0293) is submitted to Frank Murphy, Department of Transportation. The MCA Traffic Committee will submit Medfield's Speed Bump Recommendations/Report to the MCA Board Members on September 17th. The final Recommendation/Report will be presented to the MCA on October 1st at 7:00 PM for a formal community vote.

The Medfield Community Association welcomes any neighboring community leaders, council members, and city agency representatives to attend the Medfield Community Meeting on October 1st at 7:00 PM to participate in the community discussion/vote on traffic calming due to speeding cut-thru traffic.
